Layered Butter Flatbread (Flaky Paratha)

Layered Butter Flatbread (Flaky Paratha)

🧾 Ingredients (makes ~8 flatbreads)

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • ¾ cup warm water (add gradually)

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 2 tbsp oil or melted butter (for dough)

  • Extra melted butter or ghee (for layering & cooking)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Make the dough

  1. In a bowl, mix flour and salt.

  2. Add oil/butter, then slowly add warm water.

  3. Knead until soft and smooth (8–10 minutes).

  4. Cover and rest at least 30 minutes (important for soft layers).

2️⃣ Divide & roll

  1. Divide dough into 8 equal balls.

  2. Roll one ball into a very thin circle (almost see-through if you can).

3️⃣ Create the layers

  1. Brush generously with melted butter/ghee.

  2. Lightly sprinkle flour over it.

  3. Roll the circle tightly into a log.

  4. Coil the log into a spiral (like a snail 🐌).

  5. Flatten gently and rest 10 minutes.

  6. Repeat for all pieces.

4️⃣ Final roll

Roll each spiral into a 6–7 inch circle, gently—don’t press too hard or you’ll lose layers.

5️⃣ Cook

  1. Heat a pan or tawa over medium heat.

  2. Cook flatbread until bubbles form, flip.

  3. Brush with butter/ghee, flip again.

  4. Cook until golden brown on both sides.

✨ Pro Tips

  • More butter = more flakes 😏

  • Resting the dough makes a huge difference

  • After cooking, gently crush the flatbread between your hands to open the layers
