🥩 Carnivore Monte Cristo

Bread-Free • Keto • Carnivore • Gluten-Free
Serves 1–2 (depending on bravery)

Ingredients

Choose one:

  • 6–8 thin slices bacon (crispy but flexible)
    OR

  • 2 egg-based “chaffles” (see below)

Filling

  • 4 slices ham (smoked or honey-cured if keto allows)

  • 4 slices turkey (or more ham for strict carnivore)

  • 4 slices Swiss cheese

Egg Batter

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 tbsp heavy cream (optional; skip for strict carnivore)

  • Pinch salt

For Frying

  • 2–3 tbsp butter, ghee, or beef tallow

Optional Carnivore “Sweet” Finish

  • Powdered allulose or monk fruit (very light dusting)

  • Warm butter (instead of powdered sugar)

  • Side of whipped mascarpone or heavy cream

🔥 Instructions

Option A: Bacon “Bread” (Ultra Carnivore)

  1. Lay bacon strips in a skillet or oven at 375°F (190°C).

  2. Cook until crispy but still bendable.

  3. Drain on paper towels and set aside.

Option B: Egg Chaffles (More Structure)

  1. Whisk eggs + cream + salt.

  2. Cook in waffle maker or small skillet into two flat rounds.

  3. Lightly brown; don’t overcook.

Assemble the Monte Cristo

  1. Layer bacon or chaffle → Swiss → ham → turkey → Swiss → bacon/chaffle.

  2. Press gently so it holds together.

Dip & Fry

  1. Whisk eggs + cream again if needed.

  2. Dip sandwich quickly—coat, don’t soak.

  3. Heat fat in skillet over medium.

  4. Fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden and cheese melts.

Finish

  • Serve hot.

  • Optional: very light dusting of keto sweetener or a drizzle of warm butter.

🤔 Q & A (Carnivore Edition)

Q: Is this actually carnivore?

A: Yes—if you skip sweeteners and cream, it’s 100% animal-based.

Q: Bacon or chaffle—which is better?

A:

  • Bacon: Pure carnivore, insane flavor

  • Chaffle: Easier to flip, more “sandwich-like”

Q: Mine fell apart while frying. What went wrong?

A:

  • Bacon too crispy

  • Sandwich too tall

  • Egg dip too heavy

Press gently and keep layers tight.

Q: What meat combo tastes most “authentic”?

A: Ham + turkey + Swiss is the Monte Cristo holy trinity.

Q: Can I air-fry this?

A: Yes!
375°F (190°C), 6–8 minutes, flip halfway. Spray lightly with fat.

Q: What replaces the powdered sugar?

A:

  • Powdered allulose (keto)

  • Whipped mascarpone

  • Or nothing—salty-buttery is still 🔥

Q: Can I prep this ahead?

A: Assemble ahead, dip and fry fresh. Reheating ruins the crisp.

🧠 Pro Tips

  • Use thin meats—thick slices cause slide-outs.

  • Swiss melts best; cheddar leaks oil.

  • Cast iron = best crust.
