Layered Butter Flatbread (Flaky Paratha)
🧾 Ingredients (makes ~8 flatbreads)
-
2 cups all-purpose flour
-
¾ cup warm water (add gradually)
-
½ tsp salt
-
2 tbsp oil or melted butter (for dough)
-
Extra melted butter or ghee (for layering & cooking)
👩🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Make the dough
-
In a bowl, mix flour and salt.
-
Add oil/butter, then slowly add warm water.
-
Knead until soft and smooth (8–10 minutes).
-
Cover and rest at least 30 minutes (important for soft layers).
2️⃣ Divide & roll
-
Divide dough into 8 equal balls.
-
Roll one ball into a very thin circle (almost see-through if you can).
3️⃣ Create the layers
-
Brush generously with melted butter/ghee.
-
Lightly sprinkle flour over it.
-
Roll the circle tightly into a log.
-
Coil the log into a spiral (like a snail 🐌).
-
Flatten gently and rest 10 minutes.
-
Repeat for all pieces.
4️⃣ Final roll
Roll each spiral into a 6–7 inch circle, gently—don’t press too hard or you’ll lose layers.
5️⃣ Cook
-
Heat a pan or tawa over medium heat.
-
Cook flatbread until bubbles form, flip.
-
Brush with butter/ghee, flip again.
-
Cook until golden brown on both sides.
✨ Pro Tips
-
More butter = more flakes 😏
-
Resting the dough makes a huge difference
-
After cooking, gently crush the flatbread between your hands to open the layers
