This dish features tender beef cooked with soft, golden onions in a savory, slightly glossy sauce—simple, comforting, and full of flavor.


Ingredients (Serves 3–4)

For the Beef

  • 500 g beef (sirloin, flank, or boneless beef cubes/strips)

  • 2 tbsp oil (olive or vegetable)

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

For the Onions

  • 2 large onions (thinly sliced)

  • 1 tbsp oil

  • 1 tbsp butter (optional, for richness)

For the Sauce

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional but recommended)

  • 1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice

  • ½ tsp sugar or honey

  • ½ tsp crushed black pepper

  • ½ tsp chili flakes (optional)

  • 3–4 tbsp water or beef stock

Optional Garnish

  • Fresh parsley or green onions (chopped)

  • Sesame seeds


Instructions

1. Prepare the Beef

  • Cut beef into bite-size cubes or thin strips.

  • Pat dry with paper towel.

  • Season lightly with salt and black pepper.

  • Rest for 10 minutes at room temperature.


2. Sear the Beef

  • Heat a large pan or skillet over medium-high heat.

  • Add 2 tbsp oil.

  • Add beef in a single layer (cook in batches if needed).

  • Sear for 2–3 minutes per side until browned.

  • Remove beef and set aside.


3. Caramelize the Onions

  • In the same pan, add oil and butter.

  • Add sliced onions.

  • Cook on medium heat for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft, golden, and lightly caramelized.


4. Prepare the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, oyster sauce, vinegar, sugar, pepper, chili flakes, and water/stock.


5. Combine & Simmer

  • Return beef to the pan with onions.

  • Pour sauce over the mixture.

  • Stir well and cook on low-medium heat for 5–7 minutes until beef is tender and sauce thickens slightly.


6. Finish & Serve

  • Taste and adjust seasoning.

  • Garnish with parsley, green onions, or sesame seeds.

  • Serve hot.
