3–4 large sweet onions (Vidalia preferred)
4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded Monterey Jack (or mozzarella)
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
½ tsp black pepper
1 tsp dried thyme or oregano (optional)
Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)
👩🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Prep the Onions
Preheat oven to 190°C / 375°F.
Peel onions and slice into ½-inch thick rounds.
Separate the rings gently.
Lightly grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
2️⃣ Assemble the Dish
Arrange onion slices evenly in the baking dish (slightly overlapping is fine).
Drizzle melted butter evenly over the onions.
Sprinkle garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and herbs over the top.
3️⃣ Add the Cheese
Layer cheeses evenly:
Cheddar first
Monterey Jack next
Finish with Parmesan on top
🧀 The Parmesan is key for that golden crust!
4️⃣ Bake
Cover dish loosely with foil.
Bake for 20 minutes.
Remove foil and bake an additional 10–15 minutes, until:
Cheese is bubbly
Top is golden brown
Onions are fork-tender
🔥 For extra browning, broil for 2–3 minutes at the end (watch closely).
